A careful blend of scenery, wildlife, visitor facilities and ambience, the 1 963 268 hectare Kruger National Park is South Africa’s safari flagship. Widely regarded as Africa’s premier national park, Kruger stretches over 352km from north to south and averages 60km in width. Seven major rivers cross this vast wilderness and help to sustain 147 mammal species, 450 bird species, 115 reptile species and 50 fish species. Kruger’s abundance of wildlife includes more than 100 000 impala, 30 000 zebra, 16 000 buffalo, 13 000 blue wildebeest, 8 000 elephant, 5 000 giraffe, 2 000 white rhino, 2 000 lion, 1 000 leopard, 380 wild dog and 170 cheetah. Visitors can explore the park along 2 470km of all-weather roads, and 8 entrance gates provide easy access to the parks many diverse regions.
Private Game Lodge Safari
Bordering primarily on the South Western side of the Kruger Park are a number of private game reserves or concessions which house some of South Africa's most fantastic private game lodges. Reserves like the Sabi Sand, the Timbavati and Klaserie have been incorporated into the greater Kruger National Park. There are no fences between them and Kruger and the animals therefore traverse the land freely. It's only the humans that pay!
Why choose a private game lodge for your Kruger National Park Safari?
There is something to suit every budget and considering that most visitors have time restraints, this is by far the best and often a more affordable option.
The standard of accommodation and therefore the price ranges from “rustic” to “out of this world”. The game experience whether you stay in a rustic or a luxury private lodge remains a real and truly humbling experience. The reason for this is that the animals move freely throughout the areas or concessions we recommend as there are NO FENCES. It is open terrain, which you will explore in an open 4X4 vehicle with a maximum of 10 people per vehicle at any one time. Your experience is enhanced by having an experienced game ranger and tracker escorting you. When there is an animal sighting, it is strictly controlled i.e. there is normally a maximum of 3 vehicles allowed into the area of the sighting. We recommend an absolute minimum of two nights in any one camp.
